No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn - Isiah 54:17. Many of us have quoted that scripture when we feel that we are under attack. Here’s some food for thought – what if you are the weapon being formed against you? What if it is your tongue that is rising against you? It is easier to see the weapon when it is in front of you, but we often miss the one behind us. If you have ever used the words I can’t, I’m not, anything that you have ever told yourself that goes against who God says you are, is a weapon formed against you. Take a moment and think about how you speak to yourself. Do you speak life, or do you speak death? Are you self - sabotaging or moving forward in the things God has spoken over your life?
How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! Psalms 139:17-18
The word of God states that God’s precious thoughts about us are so plentiful they outnumber the grains of sand. I don’t know the last time you’ve been to the beach, but I don’t think I could count the number of grains in a handful of sand. So, if we are made in God’s image and the thoughts he has for us are precious, why do we think it is okay for us to anything other than precious thoughts?
I call my negative thoughts, Larry the Lizard. The subconscious primitive part of our brain, sometimes referred to as Lizard Brain, is responsible for our fight or flight response and tries to keep us protected. It thinks if what we did yesterday kept us alive, then we need to do it again so that we can stay alive another day. Although Larry thinks he is protecting us, he is actually forming a weapon against us that prevents us from living a purpose-filled life. When you have the thoughts, I’d love to (start a business, write a book, start a non-profit, etc.) but I can’t, I don’t have, I’m not; that is Larry forming his weapon to protect you. When Larry tells me I can’t, I remind him God says I can. As you go throughout your day today, pay attention to the thoughts that come to your mind. When Larry pokes his head around to “protect you” and keep you stuck where you are, tell him I don’t need you, go back to your corner and have a seat. I’ve got this under control, and more importantly, God has it under control.
